About Janet Greer Sammons
First of all, I thank God for his glorious creation all around us that endlessly inspires, and for the sight to experience the colors, and dance of light and dark.
I prefer to paint in a representational or realist style, but occasionally experiment in a more semi-abstract vein. For subject matter I tend to express my love for the natural world by painting beautiful vistas, flowers, birds and animals.
For the most part, my medium of choice is acrylics for the bold and vivid colors I can achieve, but also because they are very forgiving, allowing me to easily fix mistakes (important for a beginning artist)! Plus they are quick-drying and water-based for easy clean-up.
Although I drew constantly as a child and teen, I did not have the opportunity to follow up on my artistic inclinations. It was not until almost thirty years later that I occasionally took local art classes to give myself an artistic outlet that I began to regularly express my creative side once again.
Since I do not have a formal art education, I must describe myself as self-taught, although many artists have taught me much of what I have learned. Thanks to the internet there are many opportunities to learn.
Thank you for viewing my work, and I would greatly appreciate receiving your comments on my artwork so please do send me an email!
